Botox and dermal fillers. Chances are that you have heard a lot about these treatments recently since they have been steadily growing in popularity. Both are designed to help rejuvenate your face by restoring lost volume and treating lines and wrinkles, but do you know what the difference is between the two?

Botox is a drug that is made from a neurotoxin that occurs naturally in the environment, called botulinum toxin. When injected into the face, Botox reduces muscle movement in specifically targeted muscles, helping to smooth out lines and wrinkles and prevent more from forming. Botox is usually used on lines and wrinkles on the upper face, such as crow’s feet, frown lines between the eyes and worry lines on the forehead. Click here to find out more about Botox.

Dermal fillers, on the other hand, are a gel-like substance that help to fill out the face and restore lost volume to lines and wrinkles or areas of the face that have sunken or hollowed. There is a wide variety of dermal fillers available to treat a number of different concerns. The most common uses for dermal fillers are to restore volume to cheeks, temples, or jawlines or reduce the appearance of nasolabial folds (the lines from the corners of your nose to the corners of your mouth), and marionette lines (the lines from the corners of your mouth to your chin). Results from both Botox and dermal fillers are only temporary. Botox injections start to wear off within 3-4 months after your treatment, and dermal fillers (depending on which one you receive) generally last between 6 months and 2 years. Follow up treatments are necessary to maintain your results and keep you looking young and refreshed.
